In this article by the University of Pennsylvania, Body Dysmorphic Disorder is discussed. The professors writing this academic journal name that not only is body dysmorphic disorder a psychological disorder and is a very abusive disorder. They write that it is a disorder where one is extremely obsessed with fixing their appearance and turn to cosmetic surgery to fix their flaws. One interesting piece of information they give is that if someone has a family member who has body dysmorphic disorder or any obsessive-compulsive disorder is more likely to have it as well. They also state the average ages of people realizing the dislike of their appearance sets in at about 12 years old for someone with the disorder, give or take 5 years. It is also stressed that this disorder does not discriminate, it will consume not only the young and the old, but also men and women. This article brings in many different sources of information and is very enlightening.
