Statistics from a Major Magazine: Vanity Fair

http://www.vanityfair.com/online/daily/2014/03/women-films-out-gross-male-films

From the magazine, Vanity Fair the article "Women-Centric Films Out-Gross Male-Centric Films on Average: Twist!" explained that movies with a leading lady had made more sales then movies with a leading man. They showed this by presenting how much money was made by each movie featuring either a leading actress or leading actor. When compared they found that movies with leading actresses had out-grossed lead actor movies by one third. Of course they dont actually know why movies with leading actresses are getting more money than movies starring men, but it is clear that actresses are doing better by far.

Stats Video: Ted Talk

In this video from Ted Talk, Steven Levitt discusses car seats and the statistics between using car seats as opposed to traditional lap and shoulder seat belts. He ended up taking raw stats from the government websites and did four crash tests with children age 3 to 6 in car seats and traditional seat bets. He found that there wasn't really much of a difference between the seat belts alone and the car seats. He then stated that the reason people didn't believe or accept his idea was because they believed that since car seats were expensive and difficult to use, they must be more effective. Through his research he found that it really wouldn't make a big difference and the only reason people would buy car seats would be the same reason why people would take placebos. They believe it must work because of how it looks or how difficult it is to use and automatically ruled out the simple and cheap alternative even though it may be more effective.

Jerry Sandusky, Notorious Rapist

In the article “U.S. to Expand Its Definition of Rape in Statistics” by Charlie Savage in the New York Times, President Obama recently revised the rape definition which will create a wider categories that will be legally defined as rape. One of the main points of the article was that the rape statistics would go up when the definition is revised to include oral and anal rape. With this change in mind, people are saying that the law would have a bigger percentage of people raped as opposed to when the law defines it as "traditional rape".
